Reach outs are what bring the connections.

Whether it is someone you know, someone who doesn’t know you yet, or your mom - that person can’t help you if they don’t know you need help!

Reach outs are an essential part of the job search process - especially considering the ridiculously low odds of getting a job when applying online.

How low? If you apply for a job online, you have a 1-3% chance of getting an interview… much less an offer.

Reach outs are the key.

However, if you have a connection to the hiring manager, it is estimated that you have a 15X multiplier on the chances of getting an interview.
(We’ve had 3 people get interviews in our coaching group in the last week simply because I knew someone that I could introduce them to)

In the newsletter last week, we talked about how saturated the job market is.
And the only way to get noticed is to be different.
Especially with a non-traditional background.

One easy way to stand out as a former pastor is to send a video.
We also gave you a script on what to say in that last newsletter. (go check it out!)

But who do you send that video to?

You can’t just send that video to anyone.
They need to be willing and able to help you, right?

How do you know who those people are?
I’m going to tell you.

But first, we need to define some terms.

1. Target Organization: an organization that you have decided that you would like to pursue working for. This allows you to target people to reach out to to get past the screening process, rather than just jobs. I did a deep dive in Who Will Hire Me As A Former Pastor?

2. Top Job Types: the job titles that you have identified that fit your unique skills, experience, and wiring. The jobs that you would enjoy doing, and that would make sense for someone to hire you based on your work experience.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s dig into who you need to reach out to.

The 7 Types of People You Need To Reach Out To 

When you know the right people to reach out to, this will increase your chances of getting high quality connections that lead to high quality conversations.

So here’s the list:

1. Ministry Background at Target Organization: Individuals who have a ministry background and are currently working at one of your target organizations.

2. Personal Connection at Target Organization: People you personally know or have some commonality with, who are working at your target organization.

3. Personal Connection Outside Target Organization: People you know or have commonality with, who are not at your target organization but may know someone there.

4. Ministry Background with Top Job Type: Individuals with a ministry background who have your top job type or have had it in the past.

5. Hiring Manager at Target Organization: The person responsible for hiring for the job you want at your target organization.

6. Top Job Type or Department at Target Organization: Someone who has your top job type or is in the department where your top job type is located at your target organization.

7. Talent Acquisition or Recruiter at Target Organization: Individuals in talent acquisition or recruiting roles at your target organization.
